Steve Jobs: In Memoriam

With the passing of Steve Jobs, we want to share our thoughts about this dynamic leader. His drive to combine technology and beauty, through the power of consumer electronics, is something we also share.

As an entrepreneur and champion of great products, he leaves a forever inspiring legacy. We’ve asked our team at Maxthon to share their thoughts about this unforgettable figure — and we will update this post as the tributes arrive.

To the friends and family of Steve Jobs, we extend our condolences for this tragic loss.

“Steve Jobs profoundly changed the way I view my life and the world.  I still remember the strong words from his Stanford commencement a few years back – stay hungry, stay foolish.”

–Eric Hu, Senior Product Manager, Mobile

“We stand on the shoulders of giants and Steve Jobs is head and shoulders above all of them. He’ll cast a very long shadow for a very long time. In my view, he’s the greatest product manager our industry has ever seen. Sure, he knew his technology. But the greatest way his work has influenced me is by repeatedly demonstrating that great products connect with people on purely emotional levels. In a world full of copies and feature-bloated monsters Jobs repeatedly conjured up that hardest-to-conjure thing: wonder. “

Maxthon Mobile: The Right Browser for the Samsung Galaxy S II

2011-09-25 21:07:45

In the highly competitive world of smartphones, where innovation is rapid and advanced, there is a fierce battle to draw the attention of consumers. With the right combination of industrial design, utility and wow – the most subjective factor in this union – manufacturers seek to find the next big thing: that impressive product that is a vital accessory for work and leisure, which also wins the praise of critics. In the case of the eagerly awaited (in the United States) Samsung Galaxy S II, this phone meets the definition of excellence.

From its beautiful screen to its wealth of features, the S II is already one of the most popular Android smartphones. And yet, users would be remiss if they did not have an equally effective browser to complement this product. Meaning: we use our phones to do all manner of things online, including sending and receiving emails, accessing social media, watching videos, shopping, writing and communicating with friends, relatives and coworkers. To ignore this fact, or to merely accept a substandard browser on a phone of this quality, is wrong. Hence the need for Maxthon Mobile.

I write these words neither to gloat nor blatantly self-promote the virtues of Maxthon Mobile. There is no need to bash the competition, which is unseemly, while extolling the benefits of our products and services. Rather, people deserve an opportunity to harness the full power of the web without problems or delays or technical issues. So treat your new S II – no, treat any Android smartphone – as a medium to harness the full power of the Internet. With Maxthon Mobile, now is the time to do just that!

The Tablet Era: Additional Thoughts on the Present Revolution

2011-08-29 06:58:40

Having written about the rise of tablet computing, it is worth revisiting this subject for a number of reasons. First, tablets are not some fad, a soon-to-die phenomenon where consumers will quickly embrace (and then abandon) yet another piece of hardware. Secondly, tablets continue to rapidly transform everything from media to gaming to casual surfing of the web. And thirdly, tablets elevate the necessity of having the right Internet browser.

This point is a crucial one because, without a fast, reliable and secure means of getting online, a tablet is nothing more than an attractive piece of hardware. The equipment itself may win praise from critics; but unless there is innovative software and other relevant features, the hardware is simply a shiny object, a prop from some neglected science fiction story about “the future,” which will never materialize the way we hope or imagine. And yet, the tablet is a reality because there is excellent software for people to use.

Maxthon Mobile is one such example of the software responsible for successfully accessng the web. For example: we understand – no, we celebrate – this revolution in computing, the rise of tablets and the proliferation of new sources of information, since these changes complement the very purpose of the Internet. In other words, a great tablet deserves a great browser. Hence the rise of Maxthon Mobile, the most effective and convenience way to get online.

Creating an Internationally Successful Brand: The Maxthon Phenomenon

2011-08-29 05:04:54

There are two principal views about marketing. The first school of thought treats branding almost solely as a means of selling a product: the more my message resonates with you, the buying public, and the more often my slogan or jingle or TV commercial stays at the forefront of your mind, the greater the likelihood I will sell you more “stuff.” Whether that stuff is good or whether it is merely a widget, an interchangeable product or service that exists purely to generate cash, is, for this group, irrelevant. The second school of thought is the exact opposite; it believes that marketing is the essence of sincere communication, and that people may listen to a lot of concepts but they will quickly determine if the message matches reality. Think of the first group as an organization that controls the entire marketing campaign, preventing any outside criticism and quashing any attempt to deivate from the party line.

The problem with this theory is that no company can control its marketing; the Internet – the microsites, blogs, chat groups, message boards and pages upon pages of social media – makes this task impossible. And yet, some companies still try to overrule criticism — they express shock when consumers do not kneel before the idol of Mediocrity.

The second group, which consists of companies that welcome the free form nature of the Internet, understands the most fundamental rule of communications: no one can control the message; you can shape it, you can influence it, but you cannot impose your will on a global community. More to the point, if you have a good product – if your service is exceptional – then your message will be effective. Period.

Maxthon embodies this principle, which explains our success with people throughout the world. This statement is not a reason to become complacent, since we must never forsake our commitment to developing the very best products and services. But we do want to thank our users, the men and women who continue to advance our cause, because this passion is the ultimate proof of successful marketing. Let us go forward to even greater achievements in the months ahead!

Back to School: The Maxthon Difference

2011-08-29 04:13:46

Back to school is an annual ritual, something students and parents – and teachers – await with a combination of excitement, fun, curiosity and anxiety. Concerning the latter, the nervousness that accompanies going to a new school or making the transition from high school to college, this feeling – the simultaneous joy and caution that comes with a return to the classroom – is a natural reaction to change. Compound that change with the rapid developments in computing and the Internet in general — and back to school is a major event. In fact, the contrast between today’s student’s and those from just a few years ago, as it relates to accessing the web, is something to behold: far from being a distraction or a prohibited environment, the Internet is the ultimate repository of information, breaking news, scientific data, academic opinion, published material and global conversation. For students and teachers, harnessing this resource (or making effective use of specific sites) is a priority. Which brings us back to the one way we all get online: with an effective browser.

Maxthon understands this necessity – the importance of accessing the web with speed, security and convenience – and we consider this group, the students and teachers who are the lifeblood of change, worthy of the utmost respect. Rather than treat the academia as an afterthought, or as means to simply generate sales without consideration to the specific needs of students and staff, we believe educators deserve a browser that is both intuitive and efficient. Think, for a moment, of the many ways the right browser can help these people: from research to note taking to saving relevant pages to easily retrieving this data, Maxthon delivers results.

With so many students bringing their laptops or tablets or other mobile devices to class, and then using these tools to write papers or cite online sources, there can be no sacrifice in quality or reliability; there must be a smart way to bring the benefits of the Internet to these individuals. Maxthon does just that — it creates a superior browsing experience.

Thus we conclude our first class of the new school year. The grade: A+.

Transforming Legal Research, Part Two

2011-08-13 08:09:23

As a non-practicing attorney, I know one absolute truth about the legal profession: it is an exercise in exhausative research, backed by analysis, precedent, scholarly articles and a serious investment in time. The Internet has transformed the manner by which attorneys find this information, or the speed with which they can readily and affordably download this material, but that convenience raises a new set of challenges. Specifically, online research depends on the quality of the Internet browser people use. For attorneys, that browser should be – no, it must be – a tool worthy of the best standards of safety, reliability, innovation and ease of use.

In writing about these requirements, I understand that Maxthon recognizes these facts, too. That is, other browsers may not view the legal market as important or influential, but serving this audience raises the bar (pun intended) for everyone. Remember: legal research often involves confidential data and the ability to review pages upon pages of text; the only way to access this data safely and read these documents comfortably is with a browser that accommodates the needs of lawyers throughout the world. In turn, the endorsements will follow — they have followed!

Maxthon is an excellent browser for this very reason: it gives attorneys – it gives all people – a smart way to get online, with convenience and customizable features. Those benefits speak to the success of Maxthon and its popularity among lawyers and their staff.

Maxthon and the World Community

2011-07-25 12:18:56

When you work with a team of professionals who share the same goal, then excellence becomes a reality. A trite saying, perhaps, even an obvious one; but the essence of success – in business or any other endeavor – starts with a belief in creating great products. Not merely good products or acceptable products, or products that generate sales or just make profits. No, products that become a global phenomenon: products that have the highest credibility, thanks to word of mouth marketing and independent critical acclaim, and give us all a platform for achieving our ambitions. That’s how I think of the people who work at Maxthon — talented individuals who seek to develop products that are innovative and effective.

This commitment to excellence is part of a broader effort to consistently improve (and improve some more) products and services that are already symbols of the highest quality. You can see these benefits by using Maxthon and Maxthon Mobile, which enjoy the support of users worldwide. By the standard, Maxthon is a leader worthy of respect. Let us aspire to the same ambitions elsewhere.
