San Francisco, CA, May 18, 2012 – Maxthon, a global software and web services company, led a spirited conversation about the need for China’s Internet industries to proactively and aggressively seek to improve web privacy. Represented by Jinks Zhao, Web Group Director for Maxthon, the event was a key part of the latest W3C meeting in Nice, France. Other Chinese Internet companies that participated included Tencent, Mobile 360 and UC Browser.

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international community where Member organizations, a full-time staff, and the public work together to develop Web standards. Led by Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee and CEO Jeffrey Jaffe, W3C’s mission is to lead the Web to its full potential.

“The maturation of the Internet in China is an opportunity to learn, and avoid the mistakes of other Internet pioneers. In this regard, our implementation of Do Not Track is part of a proactive campaign where we put the needs of users first,” says Jeff Chen, CEO of Maxthon.

Another issue pursued by Maxthon at W3C involved lobbying all of China’s Internet companies to more quickly adopt new standards for HTML5.

“We’re glad to see such an important body as W3C placing such emphasis on Chinese Internet users. As a bloc, they represent the largest and fastest growing segment of the connected world. Free market leadership and the input of W3C make for the right partnership to resolve these issues,” says Karl Mattson, GM of Maxthon International/Chief of Product Development.
